Teisco SG Copy

Gold

1970s

This is a Japanese made Teisco Gibson SG copy from the early 70s. These are pretty rare in general and I've only seen one other like this with a gold finish and Bigsby style tremolo. It has gold hardware, two humbucker pickups, 3-way selector, two volume, and two tone knobs. The input jack is on the front.

Cosmetically, the gold hardware is pitting and peeling. The body has its share of dings and dents but the neck and fretboard are in good shape. The tuners function fine but are a bit hard to turn. Everything does work as it should. A hardshell case is included.

The neck is quite chunky but it plays nicely. The action is good and it intonates well. The pickups are fairly low output, measuring 5.2 at the bridge, 5.1 at the neck, and 2.6 combined. This results in a very clean, bell-like tone. The gain tones are great with nice note separation. The tremolo works fine but it doesn't have a lot of range.

Overall this is the kind of guitar to bring to a gig. It plays well, stays in tune, and you can bang on it without worry. It's a good conversation starter too.
