Gibson S1
Sunburst
1976
The S1 was Gibson's attempt to compete with Fender in the bolt on neck market. It debuted in 1975 and was discontinued in 1980. only 3100 were made.
It features 3 single coil pickups designed by Bill Lawrence that could be combined to get humbucker sounds. The chicken head rotary knob controls the pickup combinations:
-
Neck + middle
-
Middle + bridge
-
All 3 together
-
Neck + bridge out of phase
Overall, the neck is very comfortable and the tones are outstanding with loads of versatility.
