Orange/Matamp OR-100 Full Stack
1971
Here we have a 1971 Orange Matamp OR100 full stack in all its orange colored glory! This OR100 head recently received routine maintenance including the addition of a grounded 3 prong power cord. No other parts were replaced. It retains its original transformers, Tolex, and handle. The two 412 cabinets are original including all 8 Celestion G12M 25 watt Greenbacks with T1221 Pulsonic cones. A full Orange Matamp stack from the early 70s rarely come up for sale in the US.
Playing through this setup is a life changing experience. The 100 watt Matamp head sounds big and full at virtually any volume. Typical to Orange amps, there is a midrange punch and high end sparkle that is incredibly musical. When cranked up, the midrange exhibits a growl and depth that is a unique characteristic of Orange amps. That is why many guitar gods in the 70s and 80s played them.
Controls include Depth (6 position bass control), Drive, Bass, Treble, Boost, and Volume. An external reverb unit can be connected to the Echo jacks. The power tubes are EL-34 (4), preamp tubes are 12AX7 (3), and the rectifier is solid state.
Orange amps were founded in 1968 by Cliff Cooper and in that same year, Mat Matthias became a subcontractor with the agreement that the amps displayed "Orange Matamp". These are extremely high quality amps with a level of craftsmanship and attention to detail that is unsurpassed. The partnership ended in 1971.
