Gibson GA-20T

1957

This is an excellent sounding 1957 Gibson GA-20. Many compare the GA-20 to a Fender tweed Tremolux. This amp produces 16 watts from a pair of vintage 6V6 power tubes in cathode bias through the original 12 inch Jensen P12R speaker dated 1957. There are two channels, with channel 2 featuring a lush tube driven tremolo. Each channel shares a tone control. The original mahogany wedge tremolo footswitch is included.

The amp recently underwent maintenance which added a grounded 3 prong plug, one new input jack, a few resistors, solder touch up, and cleaned tube sockets. At some earlier point, the Depth pot was changed and a Tremolo footswitch jack was added on the back. Condition wise, the panel is quite rusty, the Tolex is in rough shape in some spots, and the handle is missing.

In terms of sound, it is not too loud and remains fairly clean until the crunch starts to kick in about halfway on the volume. At 3/4, it is pure tweed magic with wonderful overdrive and harmonics. The highly musical tremolo can be dialed in to taste using the Frequency (speed) and Depth knobs.
